Artist Biography

Susan’s artistic expression revels in the vibrancy of life, the dynamism of energy, the grace of movement and a kaleidoscope of colours, using loose, energetic brushstrokes to achieve a painterly effect.

At the core of her artistic endeavours lies a lifelong devotion to horses and their enduring companionship with humanity. As a rider, trainer and breeder Susan possesses an intuitive understanding of equine anatomy and personality.

Born in Ireland and after three decades in Australia Susan has now retired to the Northern Hemisphere where she is able to devote more time to her studio.

Susan’s painting have been regularly exhibited and grace private collections in Australia, Asia and Europe.

Member of the Association of Animal Artists,  Paard Verzameld and Bienvenu L’artiste.

Artist Statement

For me energy, life and movement are essential elements in my work. Watercolour allows unpredictable results with soft “wet on wet” washes, whilst the vibrancy and quick drying effect of acrylics allows me to apply paint in a loose and energetic manner to depict the nervous tension of a racehorse or the fleeting glimpse of a bird.
